The Monastery of St. Francis and Gorton Trust was built in the 18th century and is still responsible for the iconic and magnificent building. The transformation from a state of near dereliction to an award-winning centre of inspiration has been an incredible tale of almost miraculous achievement.
It was an opportunity not to be missed and a chance to visit Gorton Monastery to see one of Edward Pugin’s hidden neo-gothic treasures. 30 minutes presentation on “Saving Gorton Abbey – Manchester’s Taj Mahal”, followed by walking tour.
This guided tour offers into the life and work of the friars who created this much-loved place of worship and important example of Manchester architecture. Learn about the rise, decline and fall of The Monastery and its magnificent restoration.
The Monastery Manchester is approximately ten-minute drive from the City Centre by coach.
The coach from Manchester Central will depart at 10.00am arriving at The Monastery Manchester approximately 10.15am-10.30am. The return coach will depart after at 12.30pm arriving back in Manchester for approximately 12.45pm.
The tour is £35 per person including transport and fees for group talk & tour in The Monastery. Please note no food or refreshments are included in your ticket price.
