Transport

Manchester is a very walkable city. Many hotels and tourist attractions are within a 30-minute walk from Manchester Central.

Manchester has a vast and reliable public transportation system which connects the city’s central part with its outskirts via tram, bus, and train.

The Metrolink tram network provides good coverage in the city centre and extends out to some suburbs. It is a useful mode of transport for many travellers with nine stops in the city centre including the main railway stations. All stops within the zones are clearly marked and tram drivers will make regular announcements when approaching the zone boundaries.

For more information on travel around Manchester, timings and prices, please visit the Transport for Greater Manchester website: https://tfgm.com/. You can travel by tram with contactless cards and devices using the smart readers at the tram stops.  Touch-in before boarding the tram and touch-out at your destination. You don’t need to touch-out and touch-in again if you’re just changing trams as part of a single journey between two Metrolink stops.

Within the city centre, there is also a free bus which provides a free ‘hop on, hop off’ service linking all of the main rail stations, shopping districts and business areas, operating on circular routes. For more information, please visit: tfgm.com/public-transport/bus/free-bus
